El fuego no se apaga nunca

en la chimenea de la refinería.

Así como nunca se silencia su ruido

de industria tóxica.

Es una ciudad de ciencia ficción en ductos

y en la noche, un aeropuerto extraplanetario.

La admiraba.

Soñaba con trabajar en aquella refinería

y estimaba la cantidad de muertos

en caso de una tragedia.

Crecí en un barrio con una refinería.

No extraño mi barrio

pero lo cierto es que ese fuego

no se apaga nunca.

The Refinery

The fire never goes out

in the smokestack of the refinery.

Just as the noise of that toxic industry

is never silenced.

It’s a science fiction city of pipelines

and in the night, a spaceport.

I admired it.

I dreamed of working in that refinery

and estimating the quantity of dead

in case of a tragedy.

I grew up in a neighborhood with a refinery.

I don’t miss my neighborhood

but the truth is this fire

never goes out.
