self-portrait as ars poetica

Chiagoziem Jideofor

who sets a trap in a poem

or knowingly shoots their best horse

who imagines their reader

or wakes up thinking of greatness

once, you were your mother’s

miracle. she called you night, perfect white teeth

when you dream, you are someone’s favorite animal

you flutter towards heat. simmer when offended
